Paradise Mechanical, Inc. has assembled
an array of frequently asked questions
that will provide helpful information
about heating and cooling systems, the
size you require, and the systems
available to best serve the needs of
your home or business.
Equipment Size
It is important that new or replacement
equipment not be sized by “Rule of
Thumb” or by the existing equipment. The
only accurate way to determine the
correct capacity of heating and air
conditioning equipment for your home is
to have a heat load calculation
performed on your home. This will give
your dealer the heat gain and heat loss
design data for your home. These figures
can then be used to select the
appropriately sized cooling or heating
system for your home, based on equipment
performance data.
What does SEER
mean?
SEER is Seasonal Energy Efficiency
Rating. This is a rating given by the
industry to determine the efficiency of
your system. The higher the number, the
more efficient and cost effective your
system is!
When should I have my heating and air
conditioning checked?
You should have your system checked
twice a year. For the best efficiency on
your system you should have your heater
checked just prior to the winter and the
air conditioner checked just prior to
the summer. Please call us to set up a
maintenance service appointment for your
home!
Controlling
Humidity
Humidity is a problem in many areas. The
best way to control excessive humidity
is to have a system that runs longer at
lower speeds. Variable speed air
handling equipment runs at very low
speeds, which keeps the air circulating
against the cooling coil and removes
much more moisture than conventional
systems. At these low speeds, the
variable speed motor uses much less
electricity than conventional motors.
Should I close vents in the parts of the
house that are vacant?
This will not solve your problem. The
cost difference is minimal and will
create a balance problem in your system.
Other areas of the home will be
immediately affected.
Why is the upstairs
in my home always warmer in the summer
and colder in the winter?
Simply put, heat will rise in the summer
which makes your upstairs hotter. If
your current system has been sized and
installed properly a “Comfort System”
zone control would be a great solution!
This system allows you to control the 6
to 8 degree variance between the
upstairs and downstairs with two
separate thermostats. Call us for more
information!
How long should a
heating and air conditioning system
last?
A well maintained air conditioner will
last between 9 and 11 years while a well
maintained furnace can last up to 15.
Again, this is with regularly scheduled
maintenance.
Should I have my
fan on continuously?
This will help even out the temperature
in your home and eliminate “hot spots”
but will also increase how often you
must change your filter. There are more
efficient ways to obtain the result that
you want. Call our showroom for more
